Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

What a great showing by the Kimball Boy’s Golf Team at the State Tournament, and I was there to help them celebrate their runner-up performance! Day one wasn’t all that much fun, for players, or fans, as it way very windy and rather cool. but day two was nice and warm and a beautiful day to watch all of the Kimball players put on a show. Now we all know that all of the golfers are never satisfied with how they played, and what their final score was, but truly, under the conditions they had on the first day, and with how they battled hard to make a run at winning it all, Coach Chad Wise and his team came away with a lot of honors and with smiles on their faces.

With four of this year’s team returning next year, golf at Kimball HIgh is going to be solid for at least two more years. I thought it was a great gesture by Coach Wise when he called out that he wanted all of the Kimball following to gather for a group picture, and then when he was going to be the picture taker, that the head golf coach of Perkins County stepped up and said “Chad, you get in the picture and i will take the shot”. How fitting! I want to report also how all of the Kimball players showed such good sportsmanship. It makes us proud to have these young men represent our town and our school. I am sure we will be giving you readers more about this group in the next few weeks as we list the varios post season honors that will come their way. it has been fun!

Speaking of outstanding young athletes, I ran into a couple at the Four Winds Golf Course this week in Adam Bohac and Rod Wilson. Both of these young former Kimball High athletes still look like they could suit up and preform. It is always so nice to see former Kimball HIgh standouts come home for what ever occasion.

We will soon be seeing a lot more of our former Kimball residents out at the Four Winds as they journey home to play in the annual Father’s Day 3-person golf scramble that will be held June 17-18. This is always a large tournament and quite popular for family groups. The Cost is $95 per player plus $30 per team for the optional Skin game. This gets you two days of golf plus a Saturday night dinner at the Wind Break Restaurant. There are Hole in One prizes on all of the par three holes and nine flag prizes each day. The Kimball Cheer and Dance Teams will be selling lunch both days as a fund raiser.

Looking down the calendar a bit farther, the Team Mates 4-person scramble is coming up June 24 at a cost of $60 per player which gets you golf, lunch, a golf towel and a sleeve of Pro V1 golf balls, flag prizes on all 18 holes, and some outstanding prizes to the top four teams. Your chance to have fun and help a great cause. Sign up soon.
