Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Friends and Neighbors: Tami Briscoe-Rutt

Although she and her husband moved to the Kimball area from Minnesota in 2012, Tami Briscoe-Rutt may not yet be familiar to many.

They had been looking for a ranch since 2004 and while their search began in New Mexico, they found their home on the western Nebraska range and they now run a cow/calf operation south of Kimball and they raise chickens as well.

Briscoe-Rutt has a diverse background centered on customer service and she is excited to begin her duties in Kimball as the new Community Service Officer.

When local officers became overwhelmed with nuisance calls of all sorts, Kimball Police Chief Andy Bremer sought a CSO to free officers for priority calls and daily duties.

Enter Briscoe-Rutt, whose new job duties combine abatement assistance with animal control and, according to Bremer, she will serve as the evidence technician for the local department.

"She's got a big job. She will be handling all the evidence," Bremer said.

Briscoe-Rutt plans to take a common sense approach to her new position and she hopes her organizational skills and positive attitude will be appreciated in her role. She added that the hours complement her work on the ranch and she is looking forward to learning the duties she will be covering.

"I used to be a reserve officer years ago in Minnesota and I really enjoyed it," she said.

Mayor Keith Prunty added that it will be great for the community to have one person to contact for these kinds of calls.

Currently Briscoe-Rutt is learning local ordinances and she hopes to become a resource for citizens.

"I am excited, I like working with people," she said. "It is a positive thing."
