Kimball golf team set school record

Greenwood has career best round

The Kimball High boy's golf team had the best round ever while setting a new school record at the Morrill Tournament this past week. April 18 will go into the record books as the date the Kimball boys scored a team round of 298 to better the previous round of 302 shot a few years back by the team consisting of Kendall Ferguson, Jeff Greenwood, Henry Heeg, Landon Smith and Todd O'Hare.

The win on Tuesday was 63 strokes better than second place Bridgeport with their round of 361. Behind the top two were Mitchell at 362, Chadron 362, Gering JV 383, Morrill 385, Crawford 389 and Bayard 448.

It was also a career best round for senior Jordan Greenwood, who shot a medalist round of 67 to take top individual honors. The talented number one golfer for Kimball ended up with nine holescores of 32-35=67, five under par, and was already four under going into the ninth hole. En route to his fantastic round he charted an eagle, three birdies and the rest pars. He won by five strokes over runner-up Eric Stevens of Bridgeport who shot even par 72.

It was an amazing day for all five Kimball golfers with all five ending up in the top ten medal group. Sophomore Dillon Wise finished third, just one stroke over par, with his 73. Wise was happy with his round but said, "I left six birdies out there."

Coach Chad Wise said, "Dillon switched putters and his putting let him down."

Sophomore Zane Anthony placed fourth with a solid round of 78. Andrew McCloud finished sixth with his round of 80 and Izaac Reuter was ninth with an 83.

Greenwood was happy with his round, as could be expected. "It was fun," he said. "The weather was nice and that helped. The course played well for me. I just need to keep things going now."

Coach Chad Wise was also quite pleased with the win and with the play of his team but had some reservations.

"We played okay, but it could have been better. We can score better, even ten of 15 strokes better if everyone puts together a round like they are capable of," Wise said.

Coach Wise, in fact, is expecting his team to improve on the school record score they fired at the Morrill Invite. The Longhorns have four tournaments to accomplish this goal prior to district and state tournaments. They were at the Scottsbluff Tournament on Monday, will be at the SPVA Conference Tournament in North Platte tomorrow (Friday), then the Western Trails Conference Tournament in Mitchell on Saturday, April 29, and close out the regular season with their own Kimball Tournament on May 4. The district tournament will be held the week of May 15 and the state tournament is May 23-24.

Congrats go out to these five young men who rewrote the record books of Kimball High with their outstanding team round of 298, the first Longhorn team to ever break under the coveted figure of 300. Congrats also to Jordan Greenwood on his career best round of 67, and to the entire team for finishing in the top ten medal round. What a history-making day for Kimball High golf!
