Greenwood signs with Southeast Community College

Kimball High senior, Jordan Greenwood, got a visit from Southeast Community College head golf coach Bill Campbell this past week and ended up accepting the offer of a full ride scholarship to attend the two-year college, located in Beatrice, to continue his education and play golf for Campbell.

Greenwood had previously made plans to accept an offer from Kirkwood College in Iowa, but after his meeting with coach Campbell, and with the generous offer he received, he and his parents were all aboard taking the Southeast offer. Greenwood is familiar with the area, having played at the Beatrice Country Club golf course in a tournament following his freshman year at Kimball High.

"I played that course my freshman year and it is an incredible course I was very impressed with it and the area in general. I know a lot of kids that go to school there also, which is nice," he said.

Greenwood also has plans to play in a men's tournament on this same course this summer with a four-day format where a limited number of golfers advance after the first two days to the final two days.

The visit by coach Campbell was brought about by a phone call from Chuck Christensen, who knew Campbell.

"Chuck asked me if I would be interested in talking with coach Campbell and I said sure," said Greenwood.

Campbell showed up at the Four Winds Golf Course Thursday afternoon, looked the course over, talked with some of the area golfers, waited for the golf team and coach Chad Wise to arrive for practice, then talked with Greenwood and his teammates, and spent about an hour with coach Wise.

"I am so impressed with this golf course," Campbell said. "I am going to take it to the board of our region to possibly consider holding a regional tournament here in the next couple of years. This would give Jordan a chance to play a college tournament on his home course. That would be kind of special," Campbell said.

Coach Campbell also said that he will lose his number 2-3-5 players this year as their eligibility expires, leaving a very large opening for Greenwood to fit right in and assume a varsity role. At this time, Greenwood plans to move to Beatrice around the last two weeks of September and begin classes, and golf practice, around the first of October.
