Junior High boys close out basketball season

Coach Dane Wurdeman was kind enough to furnish me with some final junior high boy’s basketball results for the Kimball teams. Not a lot of wins this season but there were some individual highlights and some promising young players will be advancing into the High School program next year.

Since our last report, the Kimball eighth grade team played in a Morrill tournament, losing to Morrill 47-22 with Javon Coyle high for Kimball with 14, Jared Barnes had three, Cole Henton and Christian Van Pelt had two each. In the second game at Morrill, Kimball lost to Bayard 30-26 and Coyle scored 17, VanPelt eight and Ethan Ratzlaff one.

In a game at Bridgeport against a really talented young club, Kimball lost 61-8 with Coyle held to four, VanPelt and Barnes to two each. In a game at Sidney the host school won 32-18 with Coyle high with seven, Zander Hottell had four, Henton three, VanPelt two, Barnes two and Ratzlaff one. The eighth grad team finished out the season at Pine Bluffs losing 35-14 with Coyle in double figures again with 11, Ratzlaff had two and Barnes one.

After closing out the regular season, Kimball then played in a tournament in Ogallala, losing to the host team 32-25. Coyle had ten, Henton six, VanPelt five and Barnes four. Kimball then faced Broken bow, losing 43-29 with Coyle high again with 13, VanPelt seven, Ratzlaff four, Barnes and Henton with two each. Kimball then lost to Gothenburg 52-25 with Coyle high with 12, VanPelt 11 and Barnes two.

Tracing the seventh grade results at the Morrill tournament, Kimball won over Morrill 34-12 with Thomas Muldoon, Blake McKenzie and Azeal Flores all with ten points each and Connor Glanz and Damien Wolven with two each. Kimball then lost to Bridgeport 43-15 with McKenzie scoring six, Muldoon four, Flores and Brayden Schildhauer with two each and Glanz with one.

At Bridgeport they lost a close game, 31-28 with Wolven high with 11, Muldoon had seven, Glanz six and McKenzie four. Kimball lost at Sidney 41-18 with Glanz and McKenzie with six each, Muldoon four and Wolven two. In a b-game, Kimball lost to Sidney 24-19 led by Jesse Heidi with eight, Koby Russell six, Flores and Hottell two each and Chris Barker one.

In the game at Pine Bluffs, Kimball won 25-21 with Muldoon high with 15, McKenzie had six, Glanz and Flores two each. The seventh grade team closed out in a tournament at Sidney losing to Ogallala 38-16 with Flores high with eight, Muldoon had four, Schildhauer two and Barker one. They then lost to Sidney 41-16 with Muldoon scoring 14 and Flores two.
