Lady Longhorns fall to Hemingford and Hershey

A tough weekend for the Kimball High girls suffering losses to Hemingford and Hershey to leave them at 5-13 heading into the sub-district tournament play. On Friday night on the road at Hemingford, they lost 55-29 and in their final home game of the season, with the senior girls and their parents honored, they went down to Hershey 49-37.

At Hemingford, Kimball jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but the Lady Bobcats came back to score the next 10 points to lead 12-5 at the quarter break. In the second quarter, the same story as Kimball scored the first 6 points and got back to within one on Carli Wurdeman's 16 footer to trail 14-13, but trailed 24-15 at half time. It was a disastrous third period with the hosts out-scoring Kimball 23-3 with Wurdeman's lone trey the only scoring for the Lady Horns. Kimball did win the fourth period 11-8, but it was too little and too late.

Kate Reader, Kimball's only player in double figures with 10, but she pulled the double-double with 10 rebounds also, plus 1 block, 3 steals, and 5 assists. Wurdeman ended up with 8 points with 2 treys. Justine Heeg had 7, Jannel Fiehtner and Alexis Lulf had 2 each. Hannah Biesecker led in rebounds with 6.

In team stats, Kimball was 11/49 from the field going 2/17 on 3 pointers, 2/5 at the line, had 31 rebounds, 7 steals, 8 assists, 17 turnovers and 15 fouls.

Hemingford had 21 field goals with 1 trey, 12/17 foul shooting, 14 fouls. Natalie Gasseling led the Lady Bobcats with 14 points, Faith Rohrbouck had 11, Brooke Turek 10, Kaitlyn Kumpf 7, Lauren Gasseling 6, Emily Hansen 5, and Kelli Horstman 2.

The Kimball Junior Varsity picked up their first win of the season defeating Hemingford 26-22. Lacey Klinkhammer led Kimball with 11 points and Jenna Greenwood had 9 with 1 trey.

Another good first half against Hershey, trailing the Hershey Lady Panthers 13-12 at the quarter break with Heeg hitting a 15 footer right at the buzzer and Lulf nailing a pair of treys. At half time they were still close, trailing 26-20, but the Kimball club was having some foul problems making coach Pedersen go to his bench. Hershey put the game away in the 3rd period, out-scoring Kimball 14-4.

Lulf was high for Kimball with 11 including 3 treys and going 2/2 at the line. Reader got her double-double once again with 10 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 7 blocks. Biesecker finished with 6 points with 1 trey and had 3 steals. Fiehtner had 4 points and 3 steals, Heeg 4 points, and Klinkhammer 2.

Kimball was 14/50 from the field going 4/15 from 3 point land, 5/12 at the line, had 18 fouls, 28 rebounds, 7 blocks, 12 steals, 4 assists and 18 turnovers.

Hershey had 16 field goals including 5 treys, were 12/23 at the line, and had 18 fouls. Britni Branan had 11 points, Ashley Hassett 10, Emily Barr 9, and Ashlyn Banks 8 to lead the winners.

Hershey won the JV game 46-26. Jenna Greenwood had 9 for Kimball, Lacey Klinkhammer 7, Carli Wurdeman 5, Nicole Delaplane 2, Bailie Brower 2, and Sheridan Magninie 1.
