Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Valuation process nears completion

The first meeting of the Board of Equalization for 2017 was short and sweet. As is the custom, yearly re-organization of the board is set during the first meeting of the year. The board retained the same offices, with Larry Engstrom as Chairman and Tim Nolting as Vice-Chairman. All meetings will continue to be held at 8:30 a.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.

Following the boards re-organization, Sherry Winstrom, County Assessor was called to the meeting. After years of difficulties with the county’s assessed valuations, consideration by the board as to how to fix the issues and the subsequent hiring of Stanard & Associates, the company has completed their physical inspections and the Kimball’s Assessor’s office is busy finishing up the data entry from the inspections.

Once all the entries are complete, Stanard will return to double-check that the entries correlate to their numbers and then they will set the values. Included in this process is setting the new depreciation numbers.

Stanard will hold an informal public hearing, possibly sometime in February, before everything is permanently set. There will be more information available at a later date. Complete values must be set by March 19 of this year.
