Coyotes struggle with low numbers

The Potter-Dix Coyotes hosted their rival team, the Layton Warriors on Tuesday, Dec. 13 for a 62-32 loss.

The Coyotes varsity team was outnumbered and outscored, but not for a lack of effort.

Leading the Coyotes on the board was junior Connor Williams, who bucketed four out of five treys totaling 12 points.

Dylan Nielsen hit one trey out of seven attempts and added three two-point field goals and two from the line, adding 11 to the board.

Senior Tyrus Gawith added seven points and Michael Steele contributed two.

The Potter-Dix boys struggled against the larger, seasoned Warriors, with three starters earning double digits against their rival hosts.

Rebounding may cost the Potter-Dix boys the game as they were able to grab just 19 off the rim while the taller Warriors snatched 36.

Nielsen, Gawith and Terell Gray each nabbed five rebounds, while Williams grabbed two and Steele and J.T. Herboldsheimer rebounded one.

Gawith put his quick hands to use with three steals, Nielsen snatched one as did Williams and Gray.

The Warriors were able to force 28 turnovers as they kept the Coyotes scrambling.
