Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

A night to remember

More than 100 people filled the dance floor at the Kimball Event Center on Saturday, Dec. 3, for the inaugural Father-Daughter Christmas Ball, hosted by Santa's Helpers.

The ladies, from Kimball, Dix, Potter and Banner County, dressed in their finery, complete with corsages, and were escorted to the dance by their fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, and other father figures.

" This is the first event of this kind for the community of Kimball and it was a great turn out for the first year," event organizers commented. "It's a great way to get in some quality time while teaching the young ladies how they deserve to be treated."

The dance was a night to celebrate the young ladies, and it was a night most will never forget.

Open to all ages, youth this year ranged from two to 22 and father figures from 13 to 60.

For more than three hours, music filled the ballroom and many of the youngsters rarely took a break from dancing.

Friendly competition amongst the fathers was encouraged with fun-filled dancing games such as "Junk in your Trunk."

This game had the dads tie a tissue box filled with ping pong balls to their lower back. They then had to dance, attempting to shake all the balls out of their box.

"The laughter from the little girls watching their dads shake around was priceless," special projects coordinator Amy Sapp said.

The young ladies also competed during a game called "Cheese Head." Dads sat on the floor with a shaving cream covered shower cap on their head. The youth then had to toss cheese balls at their dad's head. The girl with the most cheese balls on her dad's head won a princess coloring set donated by Hometown Floral. The dad won a gift certificate donated by Woody's Liquor and Sporting Goods or Beer and Loathing.

A visit from Santa was the perfect end to a perfect evening. Santa danced to Jingle Bell Rock and handed out candy canes to the young ladies.

Just before leaving to resume his toy-making at the North Pole, Santa drew the winners of the big prizes for the night.

Young ladies had the chance to win an American Girl doll and a Madame Alexandra doll while dads were vying for a Hometown Hardware gift certificate.

The night, definitely one to remember, was made possible by a slew of volunteers and local businesses. Santa's Helpers are grateful to those who made the night an unmitigated success and everyone is looking forward to the ball next year.

As the party came to a close, the deejay played the last song of the night, "Daddy's Angel" by Anthony Carter.
