Lady Longhorns take two of three at WTC

The Lady Longhorns fought hard against Gordon Rushville Mustangs in game one of the Western Trails Conference tournament on Oct. 22 but ultimately lost in three close sets.

Hannah Biesecker led with 13 kills followed by Raelynn Hinton with nine and one kill each for Kaitlyn Wurdeman, Shauntae Daily and Justine Heeg.

Jannel Fiehtner lead in served points, scoring eight, followed by Biesecker with six, Kate Reader with four, Heeg and Hinton each with one.

Aces were evenly taken by Reader, Biesecker and Fiehtner.

Reader, Fiehtner and Biesecker each drove in an ace apiece.

Heeg was credited with 23 assists for her team with Wurdeman one.

Defensively, the Horns sweated out the Mustangs with blocks by Wurdeman, Biesecker and Fiehtner. Biesecker led in digs with seven followed by Fiehtner, Hinton and Heeg.

In game two of the Western Trails Conference, the Lady's kicked it up a notch and earned a win in two of three sets against the Bayard Tigers.

Offensively, both Biesecker and Hinton were literally on the ball, with both girls achieving doubles in kills; Biesecker with 20 and Hinton scoring 13. Wurdeman followed up with four, Heeg, Reader and Daily with one kill each.

Points were taken by nearly the entire team with Biesecker's high score of 14 points, Hinton 10, Heeg six, Reader four, Fiehtner and Daily scoring three each.

Serving aces were Heeg with three, Biesecker with two and Daily with one.

Heeg was hot with 28 assists to her credit and Fiehtner with three.

Biesecker was on her toes defensively as well, with five blocks and six digs, followed by Hinton, Reader and Wurdeman with one each.

The Lady Horn's win against the Bayard Tigers propelled them to topple the Morrill Lions in two quick sets in their final game of the WTC.

Biesecker was hot again offensively leading with nine kills followed by Hinton with seven, Daily and Fiehtner with three each and Reader and Heeg with two apiece.

Point leader against the Lions was Reader with seven followed closely by Hinton with seven, Fiehtner with six, Heeg with five and Daily with three.

Heeg finished up the game with 21 assists.
