Betty J. Newell

Betty J. Newell, 88, of Kimball died October 10, 2016 at the Kimball County Manor. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Caryl Miller officiating. Burial will be held in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. to sign the register book and leave condolences. Friends may also visit http://www.cantrellfh.com to view Betty's Tribute Wall and leave messages of sympathy for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Betty J. Newell's name to the Kimball County Manor. The services for Betty have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Betty J. Newell was born on August 29, 1928 in Kimball to Agatha F. Imes and Walter J. Baur. Betty lived in Dix and graduated from high school. She attended Denver's business college. She worked for the Kimball County Welfare office and for Dr. Alden upon returning home. She moved to Omaha for one year while living with her Aunt. Betty returned to Dix to teach school at District 13 for two years. She then taught third and fourth grade at the Dix Grade School.

She married Robert F. Newell "Doc" July 4, 1954. She helped Bob with his veterinary practice. While her daughters were growing up she was active in blue birds, campfire, 4-H and Job's Daughters. She was a member of the Alpha Tau Sorority and served as chair of the scholarship committee for years. She dedicated her life to her family. Her pride and joy in recent years was her great grandchildren who always brought a twinkle in her eyes and a smile on her face.

Survivors include daughters Sheila Newell of Kimball, Lesa Newell of Harrisburg and Lennette Newell (William Swank) of Lafayette, CA; grandsons Justin Newell Hesser (Megan) of Cheyenne, WY, Pake Newell and granddaughter Zoe Swank; great grandchildren, Grayson and McKenna Hesser; sister Linda (Joe) Huntley; nephew Preston (Sarah) Reichert; and great nieces Madelyn and Delaney Reichert. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, baby brother and numerous aunts and uncles.
