Lady Horns fall to Burns 3-2

The Kimball Lady Longhorns battled the aggressive Burns Lady Broncs on Thursday, Sept. 29, but ultimately could not best their opponents, who won 3-2.

"Burns wasn't particularly that much tougher, we just weren't playing," head coach Jeri Ferguson said. "We made some adjustments to our line-up. Hopefully that get us playing better."

The Kimball girls struggled with consistent serving, limiting their scoring ability. Hannah Biesecker led the Lady Horns in scoring with 10 points to her credit, including four aces, for a percentage of 76.5.

Biesecker was followed by teammates Alex Reader with eight points including 2 aces and Justine Heeg, also with eight points and a single ace.

Other high scorers were Jannel Fiehtner with six points, three ace serves, Raelynn Hinton with five points and Hanna Klosterman with three points.

The team is currently struggling through practices without two nets, according to Ferguson, who added that it leaves unable to address the inconsistency with adjustments in practice.

"The shift will be getting more touches on the ball," Ferguson added.

Biesecker was the high server for the night, but she led in attacks with 19 kills, followed closely by Hinton with 15. Shauntae Daily added three kills at the net with teammates Reader and Fiehtner contributing one each.

Defensively, the team fell short with no digs and just one solo block recorded, from Daily, who also had the only block assist for the night.

"Jannel Fiehtner played very well – hustle and determination and she was just all over the floor," Ferguson said. "The team was determined not to give up. We fell behind in two games, but didn't give. It is the heart in these girls to compete."
