Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Longhorns fall to state ranked Hershey 25-0

State ranked Hershey shut out visiting Kimball 25-0 this past Friday night leaving the Longhorns looking for that first win and hoping it comes this Friday night when they host a tough Bridgeport Bulldog team.

A stingy Hershey defense allowed Kimball a mere 77 yards of offense while attaining 236 total yards of their own. The winners prevailed in almost every category, but give the Horns credit for playing hard and especially for their defensive effort according to coach Nick Kuxhausen.

Kuxhausen said "Hershey was a very big and physical team. They are ranked in the top ten in Class C-2. I was really pleased with the effort our kids played with. We played pretty good defense overall. We have to find ways to get the offensive rolling."

Kuxhausen went on to say that the Horns will continue to work on getting better at what they do. "We will see a similar opponent in Bridgeport this Friday and they will be a run-heavy team, similar to Hershey."

Not much to report offensively for Kimball as they had 1 completion in 11 attempts for 3 yards with 1 interception in the passing department. On the ground 37 rushes for 74 yards with Kyle Spicer tops with 30 yards on 20 carries, Logan Stahla 23 yards on 9 carries, James Merryfield 10 yards on 2 carries, and Brayden Tyan 10 yards on 4 rushes.

Cody Kirby was a standout on defense and drew special praise from coach Kuxhausen. Kirby was in on 15 tackles with 1 solo stop. Sam Tussing had 3 solo tackles and 9 assists. James Merryfield 1 solo and 9 assists, Kyle Spicer 2 and 5, Aroon Flores 3 and 2, Corey Travis 1 and 6, Logan Stahla 7 assists, and Kole Bush 5 assists. Logan Stahla also had an interception.

Game time tomorrow night (Friday) is set for 7 p.m. but fans are reminded that the Music Parents are holding a Soup Supper prior to the game.
