Lady Horns split the week with four away games

The Lady Longhorns took to the road on Sept. 10 for the Gordon-Rushville Invite beginning the day with two wins but ending with two losses.

They first battled the Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs for a win in three sets – 15-25, 25-20, 27-25.

In those three sets, Hannah Biesecker led the Lady Horns with 17 kills and 2 blocks followed by teammate Raelynn Hinton with six kills. Justine Heeg added 13 assists and Jannel Fiehtner served up nine points.

Fresh off that win the Kimball ladies took control of the Crawford Rams in just two sets, both ending with a score of 25-18.

Highlights from that battle include Fiehtner, who scored seven points with four aces and again Biesecker led with 10 kills, while Hinton racked up five kills and Madison Wynne was credited with nine assists.

The Horns were slowed down by their hosts, the Lady Mustangs, despite their best efforts they lost in three sets, 25-18, 17-25, 14-25.

Biesecker led the Lady Horns with 13 kills and added seven points to the board with two aces. Heeg contributed seven points as well with 12 assists.

Fiehtner added five points of her own while Hinton was credited with six kills against the Lady Mustangs.

The Kimball ladies finished the Gordon Invite with a loss in three sets to Hemingford, 20-25, 25-22, 13-25.

Scoring against Hemingford was led by Biesecker, with eight followed by teammate Fiehtner with five.

Biesecker contributed 10 kills and two blocks. Heeg racked up another dozen assists and Hinton was credited with six kills. Fiehtner rounded out the efforts with three kills of her own.

With five days to rest and practice, the Lady Horns chalked up a hard-fought win in five sets, 25-20, 19-25, 27-25, 23-25, 15-11, on Thursday, Sept. 15 against neighboring Pine Bluffs at home.

Fiehtner led scoring throughout the sets with 12 points against the Hornets, followed by Hinton and Biesecker with 11 each.

Biesecker was credited with 20 kills, Hinton came in with 13 and Fiehtner added four. Hanna Klosterman racked up 13 assists against the Lady Hornets.

The Kimball girls played in the Gering Triangular against Sidney and their hosts on Thursday, Sept. 22 for two losses in just four sets.

Against Sidney, Fiehtner led scoring with six and added two kills. Biesecker was credited with six kills and Heeg with seven assists throughout both sets, 16-25, 12-25.

Both Gering sets were closer, 21-25 and 15-25, but the Lady Horns couldn't topple their hosts.

Alex Reader garnered five points for the Lady Horns with Biesecker adding four, including three aces.

Hinton racked up seven kills with Biesecker adding five and Klosterman was credited with eight assists against Gering.

The busy two weeks left the Lady Horns 4-11 on their season going into the final week of September. The Horns will host Burns tonight, Thursday, Sept. 29 and will prepare for their own triangular on Tuesday, Oct. 4 with Bayard and Potter-Dix.
