Kimball hosts WTC cross country

Runners converged on Four Winds Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 9 for the Western Trails Conference cross country meet.

Teams competing at the Kimball site were Banner County, Bayard, Bridgeport, Hemingford, Kimball, Minatare, Mitchell and Morrill as well as Wyoming teams, Cheyenne South, Pine Bluffs and Torrington.

Junior High runners that topped the boys' division were Ashlyn Martin of Mitchell, who ran 3 kilometers in 9:46.00 followed by Daemon Avilez of Bayard in 10:08.00 and Mitchell's Caden Knutson in 10:15.00.

Top junior high runners in the girl's division at the meet were Shelby Thurin from Pine Bluffs, Wyo., with a 3K finish time of 11:23.00, followed by Emma Gonzales, also from Pine Bluffs, with a time of 11:30.00 and Banner County's Cheyanne Knisley with 11:55.00.

Kimball's Thomas Muldoon ran fourth in the boys' division with a time of 10:32.00 and Chantel Malson took fourth in the girls' division with a time of 11:56.00.

High school runners completed a 5K course and while Kimball did not have any runners in the girls' division, Banner County's Courtney Knisley came out in sixth with a time of 24:11.00.

Leading Knisley at the finish line were Madison Watson of Mitchell with a time of 22:04.00, Dori Schneider of Bridgeport, 22:32.00, Bayard's Jessica Whitebear, 22:52.00, Britanni Wilson of Pine Bluffs, 23:49.00 and Franki Doty of Minatare, 24:10.00.

Pine Bluffs' girl's team took first at the Conference followed by Bridgeport and Bayard in second and third respectively.

Kimball placed three in the top ten boys' division with Brandon Barker, shown bottom right, taking second in 18:28.00, Zachary Wagner in seventh with a time of 19:48.00 and Kaden Adrian, right, finishing in 20:20.00 for tenth place.

Other top ten runners were Declan Jeffries of Bridgeport, completing the race in first place with a time of 18:21.00, followed by Barker and third place Alex Araujo of Bayard in 18:49.00 and William Fluckiger of Torrington in 18:57.00.

Fifth place honors went to Jack Linders of Bridgeport in 19:09.00 while teammate Adam Bustinza finished in 19:20 for sixth place. Wagner, in seventh, was followed by eighth place runner Jose Aguilar of Bayard in 20:11.00 and Dan Jensen of Pine Bluffs in ninth with a time of 20:17.00.

With the three top-ten finishes, Kimball's boys' team took second as a team with Bridgeport in first and Bayard in third.
