Dead Eyes shoot well at Nationals

Seven members of the local Dead Eye Shooters 4-H Shooting Sports Club participated in the Daisy National BB Gun Championship match held in Rogers, Ark over the July 4th weekend.

Team members were Taylor Terrill, Jaren Winstrom, Julia Winstrom, Bailie Brower and Jared Barnes. Alternates, who also participated, were Jessica Terrill and Chris Foster.

The team earned the right to participate with a third place finish at the Nebraska State 4-H BB Gun and Air Rifle Championships held in April.

The team competed over three days against 58 other teams from all over the United States.

"The kids did an outstanding job. Everyone shot their average or better and you can't ask for more than that," stated Larry Snyder. He and his wife Nicole coach the Dead Eye Shooters.

While in Rogers, the Snyder's were honored for 10 years of service as 4-H leaders in the BB Gun program.

The team finished 13th overall, the highest place a Dead Eye Team has received at this national match.

Bailie Brower was the top finisher for the team with a 15th place overall. She shot 377 with 17 centers.

Julia Winstrom had an outstanding performance in the prone position with a score of 99 and 6 centers out a possible 100. She tied for third place and after a tie break she finished fourth place overall in the prone position. Her total aggregate score was a 372 and landed her in 46th place.

Taylor Terrill finished with a total score of 367 with 83rd place while Jaren Winstrom shot a 358 and ended up finishing in 144th place. Jared Barnes rounded out the team with a score of 353 and a 171st placing. There were 294 youth who participated in the team portion of the event.

Alternates Jessica Terrill and Chris Foster also did well. Jessica shot a 355 and place 37th in the alternate division. Chris shot a 357 and had a 31st place finish. There were 94 alternates who participated in the event.

Daisy Outdoor Products sponsored this event and provided each team with $1,500 to help with expenses. In addition, participants and their parents worked hard to earn funds to attend and received a great deal of support from local business and the community.
