Jim was born Feb 26, 1961 in Kimball, NE to Rudyard "Rudge" and Katharine (Tillson) Nelson. He received his education and graduated from Kimball High School. After graduation, Jim worked on the family farm in Banner County, where he farmed for most of his life. The last few years he had worked for the City of Gering.

Jim was a member of the Banner County Volunteer Fire Department, and was involved with the Banner County Museum. He enjoyed helping his neighbors in any way that he could; from snow removal to just giving a helping hand. He was very kind hearted and loved animals, he loved to tinker with and invent new tools to help complete difficult tasks. He was also known throughout the family as a practical joker!

Jim loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his mother Katharine; siblings Marvin (Susan) Nelson of Kimball, and Barb (Chris) Jensen of Scottsbluff; nephews and niece Bill Sonnie, Bob (Kim) Sonnie and Eric Sonnie all of Sidney, Sherri (Dan) Yager of Ft. Collins, CO and Mark (Assunta) Nelson of Kimball; and great nephews and nieces Morgan Sonnie, Conrad and Harlow Yager, and Addison and Andrew Sonnie.

His father Rudge, sister Margaret Sonnie, and his paternal and maternal grandparents preceded him in death.
