A huge weekend for the Kimball Recreation Area! With the Andy Shaw 10th Annual Co-ed Softball Tournament going on both Saturday and Sunday, and the annual TeamMates Golf Tournament taking place onSaturday, the area was alive with activity. It was so gratifying to see all of the cars, the campers, the tents, the sun shields, the music, and the good food being served up. Lots of out-of-town vehicles in the parking lots, and lots and lots of people!
The softball tournament attracted 13 teams, the same as last year, according to chairman Kevin Wynne. A team out of Scottsbluff called the Corn Field Crush won the championship and the $1,000 first place money. A local team, Always Going Deep, finished 2nd, and Shots Bar and Grill/Miller Lite out of Scottsbluff was 3rd. A Sportsmanship trophy was awarded to a team out of Cheyenne called the Alcho-Ballies (don’t know if spelling is correct). A total of 37 games were played including 13 Pool Play games and 24 Tournament games.
Now get this, the third place team donated back their winnings of $150, the second place team donated back their winnings of $350, and the first place said they were also going to donate back a portion of their $1,000 check. How special is that? Kevin Wynne said everything went great. The weather even cooperated, and a lot of money was raised to help those battling cancer, in memory of Andy Shaw.

Meanwhile, over at the Four Winds Golf Course, a total of 16 four-person scramble teams were enjoying that nice weather as they scrambled to win some special prizes such as four tickets to the Nebraska-Wyoming football game, and other sports tickets. Along with paying the top four teams, there were flag prizes on every hole.
Two teams tied for the low score of 59 and the winners were determined by a score card playoff. This year’s winners were Chad Wise, Dillon Wise, Bill Wallace and Don Trofholz. Finishing second was the young team, made up of Kimball junior golfers, including Zane Anthony, Izaac Reuter, Kale Bush and Brendan Walker. Taking third was the team of Rollie Hager, Mike Coleman, Ryan Revelle and Jarrod Rich shooting 61. The team of Josh Enevoldsen, Adrian Fuss, Hod Boltjes and Chad Miller finished fourth with their round of 62.
Chairperson Stephanie Kitchens said “This was one of our best turnouts ever and I want to thank everyone who played and everyone who helped out.” All golfers were fed lunch prior to golf and all players received a nice TeamMates Golf Shirt. They were also treated to playing on one of the best golf courses in the state and were treated to delightful weather. The entry fee money will go on to help fund the local chapter of TeamMates which, of course, will help our young people.
-----------------------------------A couple of our young and talented golfers went out-of-town over the weekend to play in the Morrill Open golf Tournament, and play they did. Henry Heeg Jr. won the championship flight shooting rounds of 73-71-144 for even par over the two days. Jeffrey Greenwood was runner up with his rounds of 76-72-148 to give Kimball the top two places in this wide open tournament that attracts golfers from a wide area. Even more fun for Henry and Jeff, they got to play together both days.

Another reminder that the Kimball Junior Legion Baseball Team will be on the home diamond this Saturday, July 2nd, hosting Morrill for a double header with game times of 2 and 4 p.m. They move into Area 7 Tournament play at Ravenna 6n July 8-12.
