Christy Warner is grateful to once again reside in Kimball, and many reasons led her and her family to return.
Warner, a 1993 Kimball High School graduate, married another Kimballite after graduating, Jon Selves, who was enlisted in the United States Army when they were first married.
The first sixteen years of their lives, according to Warner, was spent moving with the Army, beginning in the Schofield Barracks, Hawaii to Fort Campbell, Kentucky and on to Fort Lewis, Washington. The majority of those beginning years were spent in Washington where Warner studied and received her real estate license.
"I worked for a large property management company and then for Catholic Community Services on a transitional housing project in Olympia, Washington," offered Warner, "While working on the project I was appointed to government committees. Those committees brought large government agencies together and worked for a common goal. My experiences working with people and their living situations as well as participating in government have made an impact on me."
The family includes three children, Vycktoryja (22), Natasha (16), and David (10).
"I appreciate the schools here," explained Warner, "They may not have the latest and greatest technology but what they do have is teachers and staff that see the kids as kids and not a number or file in a drawer. My children's mouths dropped when they realized some of the teachers are long time family friends and the principal lived across the alley from grandma. They love being able to go to the park, swimming pool or hang out with friends without being escorted or arranging play dates like you have to in the big city."
Since the family has returned to this close knit community, Warner has helped with the family business, OFP (Oilfield Pipe) and some rental properties, enabling her parents to more fully enjoy their retirement.
Warner said that between OFP, the apartment building, her job at the Sheriff's Office, and her service on the City Council, she stays really busy. Warner added that she enjoys staying busy with community and her children and wouldn't have it any other way.
