Kimball's Jaden Withrow soars through the air en route to a win in the triple jump at the Bayard C-D meet. The Longhorn junior won the event at 42'8.75" and was 2nd in the long jump. He also won both events at the Storm Invite on Monday.

Despite being hampered with a leg problem, Hannah Biesecker still won the long jump with a leap of 15'4" in Chappell on Monday, April 4.
Trent Rutledge matched his winning height of 12'6" at the Bayard meet on Monday, April 4 at the Creek Valley invite, placing second in the event.
The Kimball Boys finished third in the team standings of the Bayard C-D Invitational Track and Field Meet this past Saturday scoring 65.5 points, just a half point behind second place Bayard with 66. Bridgeport won the top team honors with 82 points, but coach Gene Mohr said, "We had some minor leg problems that caused us to pull some of our kids out of events where I know we could have scored high and we could have been right in the hunt to win this meet."
Not a bad first outing for the Longhorns as they finally got decent weather for their first outdoor track meet, a bit cool, and a bit breezy, but not that bad for Western Nebraska track.
The team scoring for the boys went like this, Bridgeport 82, Bayard 66, Kimball 65.5, Pine Bluffs 54, Lingle-Ft Laramie 45, Gordon-Rushville 42, Leyton 35, Southeast 31, Hemingford 29, Burns 28, Potter-Dix 24.5, Crawford 20, Creek Valley 2, Garden County 2, Morrill 1.
The Horns had their highlights, especially in the field events and the hurdles. Jaden Withrow won the triple jump with a best leap of 42'8.75" and was second in the long jump at 20'8.75", less than an inch behind the winning jump of 20'9.5" by Dallen Fleenor of Lingle. Trent Rutledge won the pole vault with a vault of 12'6" and Jaden Mohr tied for 5th at 10'0".
Brady Kilgore was the most pleasant surprise for the Kimball coaches as the young freshman in his first high school outdoor meet won the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 16.3, and ran second in the 300 meter hurdles in 46.39. What a bright future this young man can expect as he matures.
The Horns put together a competitive 4 x 100 relay team of Kyle Spicer, Jaikob Cole, Angel Flores and Jaden Withrow that ran a time of 48.93, to finish second in a close finish with the winning Bayard team that ran 48.33. The 4 x 800 relay team of Kaden Adrian, Zachery Wagner, Nicholas Thomas-Lewis, and Brandon Barker ran third with their time of 9:13.87 with Barker running the fastest split of 2:11.
Zachery Wagner, another talented freshman distance runner, ran fourth in the 3200 with a time of 11:43.46. Kaden Adrian came up just two places out of a medal finishing eighth in the 1600 meter run and the lanky sophomore shows lots of promise as well. Kyle Spicer just missed making the finals in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes but looked strong and will be a point scorer for Kimball in the sprints.
In the "what if" department, Brandon Barker was held out of his pet individual races with a leg problem, and Trent Rutledge was held out of the hurdles for the same reason. The Horns also had some people back home that might have scored points but didn't get some scholastic work done that kept them sidelined.
Not a real strong showing by the Kimball girls as they tied for 13th in the team standings with 6 points. Bayard won the girl's team honors with 93 points followed by Bridgeport with 78, Morrill 63, Potter-Dix 57, Pine Bluffs 48, Burns 42, Southeast 29, Hemingford 24, Crawford 22, Banner County 22, Cody-Kilgore 11, Hay Springs 8, Kimball 6, Minatare 6, Sioux County 6, Leyton 6 and Gordon-Rushville 6.
Some leg problems for the Lady Longhorns as well. Hannah Biesecker and Madison Biesecker tied for sixth in the 100 meters with their times of 13.8. Kate Reader ran sixth in the 200 in 29.3. Madison Biesecker was sixth in the 300 hurdles in 55.56, and the best finish of the day was a fourth in the long jump by Hannah Biesecker with a best leap of 15'4.5".
Kimball had one day of rest on Sunday and then headed to Chappell on this past Monday for the Creek Valley meet. Now the Horns get a long rest before their next outing which is the Western Trails Conference Meet, at Kimball, on Saturday, April 16.
The Kimball boys were one point shy of winning the Tri-State Track Invite held in Chappell this past Monday, scoring 108 team points with Bridgeport winning with 109! The balance of the boy's team scoring showed Leyton and Paxton with 79 each, South Platte 47, Sedgwick County 44, Hyannis 27.67, Creek Valley 10.66, Arthur County 8.67 and Minatare 8.
After just one day of rest following competiion in the Bayard C-D meet on Saturday, the Kimball tracksters performed very well according to coach Gene Mohr. The Kimball boys won their share of events with Jaden Withrow capturing both the long jump at 20'0" and the triple jump at 42'2". Freshman Brady Kilgore won the 110 meter high hurdles in 17.9 and the 300 hurdles in 44.8. Brandon Barker won the 3200 in 10:54 and ran fourth in the 1600 in 5:11.9.
Trent Rutledge matched his winning height of 12'6" at the Bayard meet but Dickmander of South Platte won the vault at 13'4" in Chappell leaving Rutledge to settle for second place. Paycen Harrouin cleared 11'0" for fourth place. Rutledge ran second in the 110 meter hurdles in 18.3 and Jaden Mohr was third in 2l.0. Mohr also ran fifth in the 300 hurdles in 52.5. Zachery Wagner was fifth in the triple jump at 36'5.5" and fourth in the 3200 in 11:43.2. Kaden Adrian ran fifth in the 1600 in 5:16.6.
Kimball's 4 x 100 relay team ran second with a time of 45.7 chasing Paxton to the tape with their winning time of 45.3. The Horns ran fourth in the 4 x 400 relay in 4:07.2, and were third in the 4 x 800 relay with a time of 9:26.7.
The Kimball girls finished fourth in the team standings with 55 points. Bridgeport ran away with team honors scoring 169 points followed by Sedgwick County with 71, Hyannis 59, Kimball 55, South Platte 50, Creek Valley 32, Paxton 20, Leyton 16 and Minatare 16.
Despite being hampered with a leg problem, Hannah Biesecker still won the long jump with a leap of 15'4" and sister Madison was third at 14'7". Madison ran second in the 100 meters in 13.9 and was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 53.9.
Alex Reader was fourth in the vault at 7'6" and Alanna Kelsch was sixth at 7'0". Kimball's top vaulter, Ali Hunsaker was out of town for the two meets. Jannel Fiehtner is fighting a case of pneumonia but was sixth in the triple jump at 29'0". Mikayla Fiehtner was fourth in the discus at 84'1". Freshman Macayla Bizelli surprised with a second place in the shotput at 30'11".
On the track Kate Reader ran third in the 200 with a time of 28.9 and Alanna Kelsch was sixth in the 1600 in 7:09.9. Kimball's 4 x 100 relay team ran fifth in 57.3.
Coach Gene Mohr said he was pleased with the way the Kimball teams performed but said they might look for a different meet next year unless Creek Valley changes the date.
"A meet on Saturday and then again on Monday is not good for the kids and our program," Mohr said. "The good thing now though is we have an extended period of time to get some people healthy and ready for the WTC meet being held at Kimball on April 16."
