Explaining the Veteran's History Project

Hello, I am Larry Nelson, a volunteer interviewer for the Veterans History Project. This wonderful program aims at interviewing Veterans from all branches of the military during any time of their service.

The purpose of the interviews is to obtain the Veteran’s story and keep it alive…that is, at the Library of Congress, and with the respective families involved.

The United States Congress created the Veterans History Project in 2000. The authorizing legislation (Public Law 106-380), sponsored by Representatives Ron Kind, Amo Houghton, and Steny Hoyer in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senators Max Cleland and Chuck Hagel in the U.S. Senate, received unanimous support and was signed into law by President Clinton on October 27, 2000.

The interviews take at least 40 minutes and have gone over two hours in duration. Each Veteran has a story with many remembrances which need to be captured. Please contact the interviewer (me) so that an appointment can be set up to make this happen. I can be reached at 308-249-1275. Larry Nelson
