Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

Yep, you can always tell when spring sports season has arrived in Western Nebraska by the weather! If we get some snow, rain, cold and wind, spring sports season has arrived. None the less, Kimball High track coach Gene Mohr has a nice turnout this spring with 53 total including 28 boys and 25 girls and this could go up or down by a couple or so I would imagine. Coach Chad Wise also has a good turnout for the boy’s golf team with 11 at the time of this writing and still possible additions here as well. Boy’s golf should be strong this year with the addition of some talented freshman golfers entering the program. We will be taking an in-depth look at both of these programs in our Springs Sports Special coming your way soon.

GOLF COURSE OPENS! That’s right, the Four Winds Golf Course will open this Saturday, March 12, according to Course Superintendent Jeremy Williams. Better get down to the Kimball City office and get your season pass purchased. You must have it in hand before you are allowed to play or else you will have to pay the daily green fee according to Four Winds Pro Chad Wise.

I notice a lot of work going on at the ball diamonds out at the Kimball Rec area and that area is about to come alive with the golf, baseball and softball. You just gotta love spring when things start coming alive.

Kimball’s Federation Wrestling Team will be sending five wrestlers to the State Tournament in Grand Island March 19-20. Trey Schindler captured 1st place at the District Tournament in Mitchell this past Saturday. Britton Culek was 2nd, Matthew Johnson 2nd, Kylee Kirby 3rd, and although Ciena McKenzie didn’t place at Mitchell, she will be wrestling in the girl’s division at the state tournament.
