The Kimball High Boys saw their basketball season come to a close with a 56-34 first round loss to Chadron in sub-district Tournament play at Alliance this past week. The Horns were unable to get anything going in one of their worst shooting nights of the season. The Horns shot 13/52 from the field for 25%, going 7/24 on 2 pointers and just 6/28 on 3 point attempts. They shot only 4 free throws on the night making 2.

In other team stats, they pulled 20 rebounds with 8 offensive and 12 defensive, just 6 behind the winners, had 8 steals and 9 assists. No one in double figure scoring for Kimball with Jordan Greenwood high with 8 including 2 treys. He also led the team in assists with 3. Trent Rutledge had 6 points with 1 trey. Brandon Barker had 6 with 1 trey, Tyler Magninie 5 with 1 trey, Jaden Withrow 4, Angel Flores 3 with a trey, and Creg Barker 2. Barker also led the team in rebounds with 5 and Withrow was high in steals with 3.

After falling behind 18-8 in the first period, and trailing 29-13 at half time, Kimball made a run in the third period helped by some long range shooting with 4 players hitting treys, the Horns outscored Chadron 18-11 to close to 40-31, but the winners then held Kimball to just 3 points in the fourth quarter while scoring 16 of their own to coast to the victory. Chadron had 3 players in double figure scoring and 8 players in total scoring led by Keegan Shuck with 15 and Brendinh Sayaloune and Jayden Stack both with 14. In the championship game, Chadron lost to Gordon-Rushville, a first round winner over Mitchell.

Kimball ended up with a record of 7 wins and 14 losses. They will lose five players to graduation but have a promising group of young players returning plus a good crew of incoming freshmen next season, but lack of height appears to still be a problem.

Chadron 18 11 11 16---56
