Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Friends and Neighbors: Wacey Schmid

The Kimball area welcomes our newest law enforcement officer and his family to the community.

Kimball Police Officer, Wacey Schmid, graduated from Garden County High School in Hay Springs, in 2011.

Following high school graduation Schmid attended Chadron State College and studied business management.

Schmid stated that he spent some time between college and the present time working on ranches in Hay Springs, Harrisburg, and in Wisconsin.

"I did several jobs in ranching," he said, "I broke horses, calved, you name it – I did it."

Married last year, Schmid said he met his wife in high school.

He and his wife, Taylor and their four-month-old daughter, Bentli, arrived in Kimball mid-January.

Although he joined the local police force already, he has yet to attend the police academy.

He is scheduled to attend academy in August 2016 where he will spend Monday through Friday for the following sixteen weeks before graduating.

Although he will be busy throughout those weeks, during his training he plans to spend time with his family on the weekends.

The soon-to-be "official" police officer hopes to become very involved in the community in the way of volunteering and being active in local organizations, although he stated that he hasn't been here long enough to decide the specifics.

He came to learn about the community last summer when he played on a Wednesday night softball league at the local recreation area. When he learned of the search for a local police officer he hoped to make Kimball his home.

"I really like how friendly people in Kimball are," Schmid said.
