Horns lose to Hemingford

The Kimball High boys were no match for visiting Hemingford Friday evening coming up on the short end of the score board in a 67-43 loss. A combination of poor shooting and being out rebounded 49 to 18 played a big part in the Kimball loss to their Western Trails Conference opponent.

Kimball got off to a good start and led 20-18 at the quarter break as senior Tyler Magninie tallied 9 1st period points and Creg Barker making some key plays and contributing 4 points.

From this point on, Hemingford took control of the game and increased their lead at every quarter break. The Bobcats dominated on the boards with their 49 rebounds, had 12 fouls, were 14/22 at the foul line, 3/21 on 3 point attempts, and 22/50 on 2 point field goal tries. Tanner Benge, 6'2" senior was a force on the boards and scored 16 points as the young man who will play in the Nebraska Shrine Bowl Football game this year showed his athletic abilities. Jameson Wood also had 16 points, Brandon Chancellor 12, Jacob Horstman 9, Johnny Manning 5, Casey Lashley 4, and Austin Farritor 2.

Magninie led Kimball with 19 points, had 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.

Jaden Withrow finished with 7 points along with 4 steals and 4 assists. Creg Barker had 6 points, Angel Flores 3 with his trey, Jordan Greenwood 2, Brandon Barker 2, Izaac Reuter 2 and Trent Rutledge 2.

In team stats, Kimball had 16 fouls, 14 turnovers, 15 steals, 10 assists, 1 blocked shot, 5 offensive and 13 defensive rebounds, were 6/13 at the line, l/18 on 3 point attempts, and 17/43 on 2 point attempts.

The Kimball boys have one more game remaining on the regular schedule with Mitchell coming to Kimball this Friday night for games at 5 and 6:30 p.m. After the past week's play the Horns are now 6-13 on the season. They will move into sub-district Tournament play at Alliance Tuesday, Feb. 23, with the seedings and pairing to be announced later this week.
