Banner boys battle tough PD squad

With a hefty bench to draw from, the Potter-Dix Coyotes handily defeated the Banner County Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 12 in Harrisburg.

Seth Dvorak was out after suffering a concussion in the Feb. 5 game against South Platte, the Banner county boys played hard ball with just five on the court, but were often faced with refreshed teammates as Potter-Dix coach Ryan Mumm sent in well-rested athletes and gave his entire bench playing time and the chance for each of them to score.

Every Wildcat got on the board with James Sandberg scoring the only double digits, with twelve points to his credit.

Two was the magic number for Sandberg, hitting two of four two-point field goals, shooting 2/5 from the line and adding two treys, he also grabbed two offensive and two defensive rebounds and received two fouls. He was credited with one assist three steals and seven turnovers.

Brandon Blickensderfer added eight points to the board, hitting four of ten two-point attempts and pulling down four rebounds, three offensive and one defensive. He received one foul and gave away six turnovers.

Cole Blanke, Tallion McGowan and Micah Wicker each added two to the board, grabbed a collective five rebounds eight turnovers, six steals and three fouls.

"We had our best game verses Potter-Dix. We were more aggressive on the boards and we limited our turnovers, which in turn limited their transition basket opportunities," Banner County coach Cole Wyatt said. "We were much more patient of offense, we took our time and got quality open looks at the basket."

Two Coyotes scored double digits, with senior Coby Hicks earning 15 points to his credit, including six field goals and three free throws, followed by Noah Nelson with 11, shooting 5/6 from the inside and netting one of two attempts from the line.

Edward Barnes added seven to the board, including one of two trey attempts and two field goals while Sam Bogert and Tyrus Gawith each contributed six.

Team rebounds were a bit low, with just six offensive rebounds and a total of 24. Turnovers were also low for the coyotes, totaling just 13 and the team kept personal fouls down to only 14.

The Wildcats were putting shots up as well, and worked hard to keep their opponents at bay, answering 25 Coyote points in the first quarter with 14 of their own and each team holding the other without score in the second quarter.

After halftime the Coyotes came back renewed, scoring 15 and holding the Banner County boys to just two.

The final quarter of the game the Wildcats rallied, scoring 10 additional points, but the Potter-Dix boys added 21 to their board, for a final score of 61-26 Potter-Dix.
