Walter E. Bemis

Walter E. Bemis, 85, of Kimball, died at Kimball Health Services on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Kenneth Mars officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may visit http://www.cantrellfh.com to view Walt's Tribute Wall and share stories and condolences with the family. Memorials may be given to Kimball Health Services Foundation. The services for Walt have been entrusted to Cantrell Funeral Home.

Walter Elmo Bemis was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on January 23, 1931, the son of Elmer and Leila (Taylor) Bemis. He moved with his family to Brattleboro, VT where he graduated from high school in 1949. Walt then married Barbara Covey and attended New England College of Pharmacy in Boston, MA where he received his pharmacy degree. He owned two pharmacies in Greenfield, MA and one in Brattleboro, VT. Walt married Margaret Lemay in 1964 and they moved to Colorado Springs, CO and owned a pharmacy there until moving to Kimball in 1976. Walt and Margaret purchased the Western Motel and Walt also worked part-time for Kimball Pharmacy and Walker Pharmacy until retiring in 2004. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Walt was also active in wood and leather working; he enjoyed tinkering with things around the house.

Survivors include his children Mark Bemis of Scottsbluff, NE, Terry (Gertrude) Bemis of Dix, NE, Tammy Yeglinski of New Hampshire and their mother, Barbara Martino and Mike (Andrea) Bemis of Kimball, NE, Kirk (Ginia) Bemis of Lusk, WY, and Gretchen (Jim) Westby of Kimball, NE; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret, brothers Elmer and Lyle and a sister Elaine Collins.
