Kimball wrestlers place fourth at Lingle

The Kimball High Wrestling Team had one of their best showings of the year at the two-day Tournament in Lingle this past weekend with four Longhorns ending up placing.

Coach Wade Brashear said "This tournament turned out to be one of our best showings. We have shown quite a bit of improvement and I was happy with our results. After the first day, all but one of our wrestlers were still in the competition. Jake Jenkins at 120 injury defaulted out of the tournament. We finished with four placers, had a 3rd, a 6th, and 2 runner-ups. Although we were hoping to get a champion, we were pleased with the places the team received, especially since we had no seedable wrestlers entering the tournament."

Garrett Pedersen at 106 finished 3rd winning 4 of his 5 matches registering 2 wins by fall, 1 by technical fall and 1 decision and suffering a loss by fall.

Trevor Ryschon at 113 also had 5 matches, winning twice and placed 6th. Jake Jenkins at 120 won his first match by fall but then lost his next two matches by injury time and defaulted out. Toby McManigal at 152, was on the mats 4 times and won twice.

Kimball's big guys had a good day with Cody Kirby at 220 winning his first 3 matches, 2 by pin and 1 by a 15-2 major decision before losing by fall at 5:22 in the championship match giving him 2nd place. Eric Escajeda at 285 won his first match 17-2, won by fall, and then lost a 3-0 decision in the match for first place giving him the runner-up medal.

The young Kimball team will be back in action this Saturday· at the Mitchell Tournament with a scheduled start time of 8:30 a.m.
