Banner County Wildcats fall to Leyton, Creek Valley

The Banner County girls were overcome by the Leyton Lady Warriors on Tuesday, Jan. 19, despite a close first quarter.

"We showed improvement over our previous game against them before Christmas," Coach Brittany Cooper said. "Overall, we seemed to play hard and have fun."

The Lady Wildcats were led by sophomore Emily Singleton, with 10 points, in their battle for the win, hitting two of four attempted two point field goals and landing two treys.

MaKenna Dahlgrin added seven to the board, with two field goals of her own and three from the line, while senior Paige Cross contributed six points, with a solitary two-point shot and four from the line.

Dahlgrin pulled down a total of 10 rebounds and added three steals and four blocks to her credit, with Savannah Jordan grabbing eight rebounds and an assist. Cross grabbed seven rebounds and Courtney Knisley pulled in four.

The Lady Warriors outnumbered the Banner County girls and with height on their side, the Lady Wildcats had to play a harder game.

"We attacked the basket and drew fouls, took care of the ball and had fewer turnovers," Cooper said. "We scored a lot of our points from the freethrow line, since we were drawing fouls. They were using their height and size to block a lot of our inside shots. Our passing overall has improved - generally fewer turnovers and more assists for our team. We're making better decisions about shots and fouls too."
