Wildcats continue to improve

The Banner County Wildcats hit the road to play against the Leyton Warriors on Friday, Dec. 18 for the first of two non-conference weekend games. Though the final score was 62-20 Leyton, Coach Cole Wyatt was encouraged by the advancements his young team has made.

“We took some pretty big steps,” Wyatt said. “The boys did a lot of good things.”

The Wildcats missed two days of practice during the week due to weather, but managed to improve both offensively and defensively, according to Wyatt.

Brandon Blickensderfer led Wildcats scoring as he landed four 3-pointers in the game against the Warriors. Following Blickensderfer in scoring was James Sandberg with four to his credit while Cole Blanke and Seth Dvorak each contributed two points.

On Saturday Banner County hosted the Creek Valley Storm and walked away with their second loss of the week, 47-17.

“The kids are starting to learn how to read the defense,” he added. “On defense we are learning that we can be a little more physical underneath the basket.”

Scoring for the Wildcats against the Storm was led by Sandberg with a total of 14 to his credit, followed by Blickensderfer with three.

Wyatt plans to have the Banner County boys work on conditioning and passing over the Christmas break.

The Wildcats will return from break for a non-conference, away game against the Hay Springs Hawks on January 8.
