Banner County Wildcats gain experience on court

With just five athletes on their roster, the Wildcats forfeited the varsity game against the Coyotes but played out the junior varsity game.

According to coach Cole Wyatt because the Banner County boys are down to just five players, they have forfeited every varsity game in the month of December.

Wyatt has two athletes on a forced 90-day suspension as transfers into the district, but the team will still play the junior varsity games.

“These games are really nothing more than glorified scrimmages,” Coach Cole Wyatt said. “They give the team valuable playing time, experience and the chance to learn.”

The Coyotes outnumbered the Wildcats more than 2-1 and had the advantage of seasoned players to call on. Potter-Dix starters for the match, Noah Nelson, Austin Lewis, Tyrus Gawith, Barnes and Rusk quickly took control of the game, and ended the first half with a 22-3 lead.

Coming back from halftimeWildcat James Sandberg scored first but the Coyotes returned with a speedy and aggressive game.

Sandberg received an elbow to the nose in the third quarter, causing a delay in the game during which he was checked out and cleaned up. He came back to play the game with a four man team but was subsequently ejected from the game on a technical foul.

Before the final quarter the Wildcats were running a three-man team against a fill five-man Coyote team.

The Coyotes beat the Wildcats 43-10. Stats for December will not be available for Banner County.
