The first official season opening contests will take place on December 4-5 at the Kimball Four School Invitational Tournament with Morrill, Dundy County-Stratton, and McPherson County joining up with Kimball to make up the field. We will give you bracketing and times next week.

The 2015 SPVA All Conference volleyball selections were announced this week. Kimball seniors Danika Daum and Madison Biesecker were named to the first team for volleyball. Kimball players honored in football were senior Ethan Land, first team offensive wide receiver and Trent Rutledge, a senior, to the first team on defense.

Honorable Mention went to seniors Tyler Magninie and Creg Barker for the C2-8 All District Team.

The MAC All Conference football and volleyball selections also came out this past week. Potter Dix had three players named to the first team off their outstanding state qualifying volleyball team with senior Regyn Hicks along with juniors Alexus Rozelle and Dawson Sharman named to the first team, junior Lanie Thies to the second team, and sophomore Audrey Juelfs given Honorable Mention. In football, Coby Hicks was named All Conference and senior Cole Christensen was Honorable Mention along with senior Keverett Rusk.

Kimball’s Mike Daum continues to impress with his play at Division One South Dakota State University. This past week he had 17 points on 5/8 field goal shooting and 7/8 foul shooting in helping his team to a 76-67 win over TCU. He also pulled 8 rebounds.

SDS won over Illinois State 83-67 this past Thursday with Daum scoring 5 points, charting 11 rebounds, and hawking 3 steals.

This week Daum and team mates are in Cancun, Mexico for the Cancun Challenge Tournament and guess where his mom and dad will be on those dates? Hey, always fun to watch your talented son play basketball and besides, it’s warm down there! SDS is in action in Kansas City this Saturday, and will host Wayne State on December 2.

The Kimball Junior High Wrestling Team had 2 medalists at the Morrill Tournament this past week. Ethan Ratzlaff and Steve Bateman both wrestled in the consolation finals and both won those matches to earn 3rd place honors. Coach Klent Schnell said “The Morrill Tournament is probably one of the toughest tournaments we will wrestle in. This is the first true double elimination tournament we wrestle in. We were right in many of our matches right up to the final moments when we committed some costly mistakes.”

Steve Bateman leads Kimball in wins with his season record total of 10 wins and 2 losses. Other win-loss records are Bradley Lee 6-3, Connor McGinnis 4-7, Zavyer White 5-7, Scott Hunsaker 7-5, Corey Gardner 0-11, Ethan Ratzlaff 8-5, Zander Hottell 1-4, Todd Hunsaker 6-4, and Jorge Sotelo 0-2.
