County to refund more than $38,000

Kimball County was recently notified by the Nebraska Department of Revenue that a settlement has been reached for a 2014 valuation appeal from Frontier Pipeline, LLC. Frontier went through the process of suing the county for the assessed value placed on its properties, and won for a refund of more than $38,500.

According to Kimball County Treasurer, Diana Quicke, the company paid their 2014 taxes in full and the monies were then distributed to other entities or political subdivisions such as the Kimball County general fund, ambulance fund, the Ag Society, as well as nearly $18,000 to our local schools.

“Since Frontier Pipeline, LLC, has paid their 2014 taxes in full,” explains Quicke in a letter to the County Commissioners, “this reduction in taxable value results in a tax refund needing to be paid back to the tax payer.”

The local treasurer’s office explained the situation to each of the entities that originally received the excess funds and sought a refund of that money.

The county faces a deadline of Nov. 17 to refund the monies to the company.
