Cheryl Jean (Toombs) Rasgorshek

Cheryl Jean (Toombs) Rasgorshek, 66, of Lincoln passed away at home on Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born on March 22, 1949, in York to Wayne and Maxine Toombs. The youngest of three sisters, Cheryl attended Kimball County High School and graduated in 1967.

After high school, Cheryl attended Kearney School of Nursing and graduated in 1968. She married James Arnold Rasgorshek on Nov. 9, 1968 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Denton, Nebraska. Cheryl and Jim had three children: Jenny, Eric, and Ben.

They began their life together in Lincoln and lived there for five years before moving to Denton, where they lived for 20 years. They moved to Crete in 1993 and back to Lincoln in September of 2014. Cheryl worked many clerical jobs up until her retirement in 2010.

Cheryl enjoyed playing cards and sending warm wishes to family and friends through greeting cards, which was a ritual of hers. Above all, Cheryl enjoyed spending time with family and friends; her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Jim, children and spouses: Jenny and Dan Sis of Lincoln, Eric and Julie Rasgorshek of Crete, and Ben and Katie Rasgorshek of Omaha; six grandchildren, Jami and Dani Sis, Sam, Ethan, and Marin Rasgorshek, and Henley Rasgorshek; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Allen Cox of New Market, Iowa; brother-in-law, Jim Elrod of Salina, Kan .; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Connie Elrod.

Viewing will be from 1– 9 p.m. Thursday  with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 7015 Cass Street, Denton. Burial will be in Denton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
