Lady Longhorns have tough week against larger schools

It was a tough week for the Kimball volleyball team as the Lady Longhorns fell in home matches to Alliance, Gering and Sidney.

"We were disappointed that we did not win these games," said Kimball volleyball coach Jeri Ferguson. "We feel that we had the ability to do so but in the end we made too many mistakes – too many missed serves and too many unforced errors.

"For the varsity, we did not play very well against Gering, but I was very proud of how they bounced back and competed extremely well against Sidney. We are back at practice working hard and the young ladies all still have great attitudes, so I am very pleased."

The Lady Longhorns (9-4) opened the week last Tuesday with a tough 3-2 loss against Alliance. The Lady Bulldogs won in a nail biter, 22-25, 25-21, 8-25, 25-17 and 15-11.

Kimball dropped both ends of a tough home triangular to Gering and Sidney last Thursday. The Lady Longhorns opened with a 25-22 and 25-16 loss to the Lady Bulldogs.

For the Lady Longhorns, the top scorers of service points were Danika Daum with four service points and Madison Biesecker with three.

Mikayla Fiehtner led the team with five kills and Raelynn Hinton had four kills. Biesecker led the way with 33 assists and Daum had 28.

Kimball opened with a 25-17 game one win against Sidney, before falling 25-16 and 25-23 in the final two games.

The top scorers for the Lady Longhorns were Madie Snyder with 16 service points and Ali Hunsaker with eight.

Daum led the team with eight kills, with Madison Biesecker added four. Fiehtner had a total of seven blocks to lead the team in that category. Biesecker once again had a total of 33 assists, making her the leader again, while Daum finished the game with a total of 30.

The junior varsity team also lost to Gering (21-25, 25-18, 15-13) and Sidney (25-18, 25-17) on Thursday.
