All is fair in Kimball and Banner counties, as participants, contestants, vendors and entertainers prepare for the 97th Annual Kimball-Banner County Fair.
The fun begins Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 9 a.m. with 4-H exhibits and competitions scheduled for the Kimball High School, the fairgrounds and the Kimball Event Center.
The 4-H fashion revue is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at the high school, a public fashion revue will begin at 7 p.m., and the archery competition will take place at the event center that evening beginning at 5 p.m.
Wednesday will be horse day at the fair with 4-H horse showmanship, halter horsemanship, pleasure trail, reining, pole bending and barrel racing that begins at 8:30 a.m.
Thursday morning will open with a small animal show and a dog show beginning at 8 a.m., and the day ends with a catch-a-calf contest followed by the ever popular gymkhana beginning at 4 p.m.
Catch an early morning breakfast Friday or Saturday, served from 6:30-8 a.m. by local 4-H kids at the concession booth, then enjoy the labors of those kids when the exhibit hall opens at 9 a.m.
Friday will be busy for those showing market swine, dairy, dairy goat, sheep, market lamb and meat goat.
After all the judging ends the Flying W Wranglers, a band from Colorado Springs, Colo., will entertain the crowds at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday is the main event. After a full day for showmanship, the fair will be brought to downtown Kimball with the mare and foal parade at 5 p.m., followed by the crowd favorite, Mutton Bustin' at 8 p.m. and PRCA rodeo after that.
Lexi Larsen, Nebraska native and Billboard Country artist, will perform at the Kimball Event Center following the rodeo.
Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., there will be a second mare and foal parade through downtown, again followed by more rodeo and Mutton Bustin'.
Sunday afternoon the 4-H and FFA projects will be released and at 5 p.m., and those groups will present their "Parade of Champions" followed by a free barbecue and at 7 p.m., chore time relays.
Monday morning breakfast will be held 6:30-8 a.m. at the concession stand. At 9 a.m., the 4-H and FFA market livestock auction will be held. Admission is required.
Throughout the week vendors will be present in the midway and concession stands will be open and through the weekend kids can enjoy the inflatable attractions as well.
