Kimball hosting state junior amateur golf

The Four Winds Golf Course will come alive with young golfers this upcoming week as the Four Winds Golf Course will be the site of the 47th Nebraska Junior Amateur Championship and the 15th Nebraska Girl’s Amateur Championship.

Tournament play will begin on Tuesday (July 14) and will run through Thursday (July l6) but local golfers can expect to see young golfers from all points east in the state to arrive possibly earlier to play some practice rounds. This will also bring the families of the young golfers to our area as well.

Formal registration will begin at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and the practice areas will also be open at that same time. The morning wave of round one will begin at 8 a.m. with another round of golf to go off at 1 p.m. The exact format will follow on Wednesday with the girls award ceremony to be held following their play on Wednesday. The boys final day of golf will take place on Thursday with their award ceremony to be held following Thursday play.

Volunteers to help in many categories are needed and anyone who can help for any amount of time are asked to contact Wilma Gilliland at 308-235-2281. The public is invited to turn out to follow or watch the state’s finest young golfers all three days. Housing is also needed for golfers and families and anyone who can help in this manner can also let Wilma know.

The public should also be aware that on all three days, the course will be closed to open golf until late afternoon so be sure to call ahead and contact the Four Winds Pro Shop for open golf tee times. That number is 235-4241.

Additional information provided by the Nebraska Golf Association shows the girls format as 36 holes of stroke play and the boys 54 holes of stroke play. All players must register with the NGA prior to their first round starting time. Registration will be located in front of the golf shop and staffed during set times. A proper dress code should be followed. The NGA will provide free practice range balls and will provide a player luncheon buffet on Tuesday and Wednesday. The winners will be awarded a championship trophy and gold medal, the runner up a crystal trophy and silver medal and the top ten finishers will receive bronze medals.
