Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Garden walk slated for this weekend

The second annual Kimball Garden Walk, sponsored by the P.E.O. Chapter GN, will feature four new yards this Saturday, July 11 from 8-11 a.m.

Each yard on the self-guided tour is unique, according to organizer Carol Walker, with water features, low-maintenance beauty, statuary and limited space gardening.

“Jim and Betty Schulte’s garden is a really good example of how you can make use of a smaller space for both vegetable beds and flowers,” Walker said.

Each garden on the tour will offer tickets for the entire event as well as a refreshment table and information about the garden for participants.

Garden featured for the Garden Walk include Schulte’s, located at 400 High School street, Dan and Shirley Kinnison, 119 E. 9th Street, Jerry and Sharon Williams, 709 S. Marion, and the Anu Spa and Salon at 508 S. Burg.

Tickets will also come with door prize tickets for a prize from each location, and additional door prize tickets can also be purchased.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will support projects of the philanthropic chapter, aimed at helping women continue education from graduation throughout adulthood.

The organization also supports a nursing home and a girls college as well as the International Peace Scholarship.

“This is the second annual Garden Walk with four yards last year and 79 participants. We thought 79 was good for our first year,” Walker said. “We hope this is something we can continue for a long time and we felt like it was something interesting and different for people to do.”

Tickets may be purchased for $10 at Larsen’s Jewelry Store in downtown Kimball, or by contacting Carol Walker at 308-235-3155 or Pat Quillen at 308-235-4352. Tickets may also be purchased the day of the walk for $12.
