Kimball teen seriously injured in Monday wreck

A Kimball County teen was seriously injured in an accident Monday night.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, the Kimball County Dispatch received a call of an accident from an unidentified passerby on County Road 48 north of town.

According to Kimball County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Loy, the driver, AJ Spicer, 19, of Kimball, was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and was ejected as the 2005 Chevy pick-up rolled.

Loy cited excessive speed as a contributing factor, however the accident is still under investigation.

A Life Flight helicopter met local responders, including the Kimball County Ambulance Service and the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department, at the intersection of Highway 71 and CR 48 to transport Spicer to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

“The fire department is dual paged in along with the ambulance in case an extrication is needed,” Loy said.

Spicer’s condition at press time was serious but stable according to reports Loy had received.

“The weather is nice and people are not driving for road conditions,” Loy said. “Slow down and wear seat belts. Seat belts have prevented greater injuries than what we would have seen otherwise.”

A second accident occurred just prior to Spicer’s along Interstate 80 in which a 33-year-old woman overcorrected after swerving to miss a part that had fallen off a semi truck.

That woman was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center via air. Identification and condition of that driver and any passengers has not been reported.

“Slow down and pay attention to what is going on around you,” Loy further advised.
