Many activities abound in inaugural Potter Car Bowl

The inaugural Potter Car Bowl is sure to provide fun for everyone, golfers, drivers, bull riders and bowlers, with many activities to choose from as an unofficial kick-off for summer in Potter.

Planned for Saturday, June 27, the Potter Car Bowl was organized with help from the Potter Lions Club, Potter American Legion Post 29 and many community volunteers, according to organizing committee member Drew Enevoldsen.

Registration for the Car Bowl and Tractor Show begins at 9 a.m. with judging starting at 1 p.m.

The day begins early for golfers with a two-man alternating shot golf tournament with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Prairie Pines Golf Course with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Pre-registration is encouraged as there are a limited number of carts, according to Enevoldsen.

With nearly 20 categories for the car and tractor show, including motorcycles, the Car Bowl committee members will be busy choosing the top two in each.

“The community and car owners will judge everyone one for the top six awards listed below,” Enevoldsen said.

Among the categories are The Beast – the favorite car, tractor, truck or motorcycle from 1960 through 1979; and the Beauty – the crowd’s favorite vehicle from 1980 to present.

The Respected award will go to the crowd’s favorite from 1959 and earlier.

Awards will also be presented for the crowd’s favorite in hottest engine, best paint and coolest interior.

Those who wish can experience duckpin bowling from 9 a.m. to 11:30 in the only duckpin bowling alley west of the Mississippi.

A limited number of teams will be able to compete in the Duckpin Bowling tournament from noon to 3 p.m., at which time the car bowl awards ceremony will begin.

Throughout the day local businesses will be available for snacks, meals and refreshments, Enevoldsen said, but interested vendors are welcome to contact the event board via email at [email protected].

Kids age 5 to 13 can ride miniature bulls from eastern Nebraska and Wyoming beginning at 4 p.m. Local kids are encouraged to register early by calling Jared Klein of Tiny Twisters Miniature Bull Riding at 307-575-6120.

Following the day of fun the Potter Lions Club is hosting a melodrama, “Is there a Doctor in The House?,” by invitation only to the businesses, donors, volunteers and sponsors at the American Legion Hall, where dinner will be served as well.

Enevoldsen said the inaugural Potter Car-Bowl is a great way to start the summer with the community, family and friends, but it will not replace Potter Days, the town-wide celebration planned annually in August.

“Potter is just a happenin’ place,” Enevoldsen said.
