Coyotes take fourth place tie at state track

It was a stellar two days for Potter-Dix at the state track meet in Omaha last week.

The boys team not only won state in the 4x800 meter relay, the Coyotes tied for fourth place in the team standings. The girls finished 33rd at the meet.

Giltner won the state team title with 57 points, followed by Bertrand with 47 and Brady at 32. Potter-Dix and Wausa each tallied 30 points to tie for fourth place.

The highlight of the two-day performance was the 4x800 meter team's state championship run. The team of Cooper Hicks, Cameron Purcell, Samuel Bogert and Jake Johnson took first in 8:21.92 to claim the state title.

In the long jump, Kelsey Rozelle was close to a state title. He took second place with a jump of 21-05.75, just three quarters of an inch behind winner Cody Stratman of Wynot.

Rozelle also picked up points in the high jump, finishing sixth with a leap of 6-02. Stetson Meyer of Diller-Odell won the event at 6-05.

Johnson also added points individually in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs. He finished sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:04.18. Colin Lambertson of Anselmo-Merna won the event with a time of 2:04.10. Johnson also finished sixth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:38.46. Colin Erickson of North Central had the winning time of 4:31.45.

The Coyote 4x400 meter relay team also performed well at state. The team of Hicks, Johnson, Bogert and Purcell took sixth with a time of 3:35.73. Brady won the event in 3:31.85.

For the girls, Alexus Rozelle was the lone performer in the points at state. She finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 114-09. Addie Shaw of North Central had the winning throw of 118-01. Rozelle also tied for 13th in the shot put with a throw of 36-02.25.
