Kimball sixth grade team takes second in Laramie, finishes season 21-10

A Kimball sixth grade girls basketball wrapped up a successful season over the weekend, finishing second in the Laramie Youth Basketball Tournament to end the 2015 campaign with a 21-10 record.

The team started play Jan. 10 and played through last weekend. Assistant coach Andrea Bemis said the highlight of the season was last weekend, when the team battled for a second place finish. Kimball lost its opening round game to Wheatland, and battled back through the losers bracket to face the team once again. Kimball topped Wheatland in a rematch, forcing a winner-take-all championship game. Kimball dropped the final game to Wheatland by three points, ending a two-day span where the team played in seven games.

"It's just a good group of girls. They have a lot of heart," Bemis said.

In addition to Bemis, the coaching staff includes head coach Sarah Bouse and assistant coach Kyle Johnson. The Kimball squad went undefeated in the Wyobraska League and finished the season 21-10 overall.

Members of the team include Jaydin Paxton, Brooklin Golding, Sydney Keller, Sydney Biesecker, Megan Spicer, Brandi Councilman, Raven Johnson, Samantha Bemis, Emma Martin and Melai Casimiro.
