How does one catch a leprechaun?

Editor's Note: Wade Brashear won first place in the adult division in the Kimball Business Boosters' essay contest on how to catch a leprachaun. His essay is included below.

A "pot of gold" at the end of a rainbow is not unlike our challenges through life, a never-ending quest to find that "pot of gold," our belonging. Therefore, this essay answers the question, how do we find that fit, that belonging, in life? Well, it is ironic that one would ask, what is the goal of living? How do I catch this leprechaun of life? Truth be told, there are two key steps to finding the "pot of gold."

First, as humans, we must spot our "rainbow." Our "rainbow" is that beauty, that structure, we so highly desire. The "rainbow" itself is not the end-goal, it is the guide, the mentor, the teacher. Without this guide, there is a slim chance for us to locate our purpose, the "pot of gold." We can all name some of the "rainbows" that helped to guide our lives. One might wish to find several "rainbows," because the more we locate, the better the chance of us finding the "rainbow's" end, the whereabouts of that elusive "leprechaun."

Furthermore, we must capture our "leprechauns." These "leprechauns" are the pesky doubts, the obstacles, our negative thoughts and desires. We must capture these distractions, overcome their trickiness. Taking hold of our "leprechauns" allows us to pinpoint our dreams, our "pot of gold."

Therefore, if you want some meaning in your life, spot your "rainbows," follow them to the end, catch your pesky "leprechauns," and enjoy your fulfilling "pot of gold."
