Kimball wins dual championships at Morrill Junior High tourney

What a week for the Kimball Junior High boys as both the 8th and 7th grade teams won championships at the Morrill Tournament.

The 8th grade team is undefeated at 6-0 coming into this week’s play. At Morrill they won 39-33 over Bridgeport with Zane Anthony high with 11 points, Brady Kilgore and Izaac Reuter had 8 each, Colton Mielke and Corey Travis 6 each. Kimball then won over Bayard 37-24 with Anthony high again with 11 points including 2 treys. Kilgore had 7, Reuter 6, Mielke 6, Ethan Bemis 5, and Jaren Winstrom 2.

The 7th grade started with a 21-16 victory over Bridgeport.

The Kimball score book was incomplete so I don’t have the complete individual scoring but Brendan Walker, Beau Hanks, Brayden Tyan, and Jacob Withrow were in the scoring column for certain. Kimball then won 45-25 over Morrill with Brendan Walker scoring 20, Jacob Withrow 11, Brayden Tyan 5, Samuel Cajero 4, Austin Lulf 3, Beau Hanks 2, and Zavyer White 1.

Earlier in the week, Kimball played at Gering with the 8-A team keeping their season perfect with a 43-40 win. Reuter led with 18 points, Mielke had 9, Travis 6, Anthony 4, and Kilgore 4.

In an 8-B game Winstrom tallied 11, Sheign Krafczik 5, Dillon Wise 3, and Grant Hickman 2.

Kimball lost the 7-A game 39-34 with Withrow high with 12, Tyan had 9, Todd Hunsaker 6, Lulf 4, and Walker 3. Kimball won the 7-B game 21-17 with Lulf high with 7, Hunsaker, Tyan, and Withrow all with 4 each, and White with 2. Kimball’s 7th grade team is 4-2 on the season.

Kimball was back in action this past Monday at Bridgeport, will host Sidney this Saturday for 9 a.m. games, and are at Pine Bluffs this coming Tuesday (Feb. 17) for games at 3 p.m.
