Dead Eye Shooters open 2015 season strong

The Kimball Dead Eye Shooters 4-H Club has started its season off with a bang.  Several members of the club have participated in competition held in Rushville and Mitchell.  Youth participated in BB gun, Sporter Air Rifle and Precision Air Rifle events.

“We are so proud of how well the kids are doing this year. They are really excited and we are looking forward to an outstanding season,” said Nicole Snyder, one of the club’s coaches and leaders.

Not only are the kids participating in competitions on a local level but, in national level postal matches as well.  A “postal” match is one in which targets are sent by mail to the youth, and once the youth have shot the targets they are mailed back to the sponsoring organization.  Nine youth from the Kimball Dead Eye Shooters recently completed targets for the Civilian Marksmanship Program National Air Rifle Match and the American Legion National Junior Air Rifle Match.  These targets will be scored and ranked with hundreds of shooters from across the nation.  Local youth are hoping for an opportunity to move on to a second round of competition in both these matches later this spring. Local participant Madie Snyder earned the honor last year to participate in the final round of the American Legion National Junior Air Rifle Match final after placing in both the preliminary and second rounds of postal competition.  The final was held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs last summer where she placed second overall in the Sporter category.  Submitting postal targets in this year’s events are:  Sporter – Jaren Winstrom, Bailie Brower, Shauntae Daily, Chris Foster, Jared Barnes, Ansley Grothusen, Braden Lukassen and Taylor Terrill; Precision – Madie Snyder.
