Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Kimball wrestlers perform well on home mats

The Kimball High wrestlers hosted Lingle and Southeast this past week and had perhaps their best outing of the season to date according to coach Wade Brashear. Kimball won over Lingle 28-18 and lost to Southeast 36-23, although they actually won in head-to-head matches. Southeast also won over Lingle 51-17.

It was a special night for a pair of special young men as seniors Rowdy Keller and Justin Mohr were honored along with their parents in between matches. These two young men have given a lot of themselves for four years of high school to help build and promote the sport. They both came through again with wins for Kimball on this special night as Keller won both of his matches at 120 pounds against Lingle with a major decision of Abernathy with a score of 12-2 and at 126 against Southeast with a technical fall of Lovercheck and a score of 19-4 in 4:38. Mohr did not have a match against Lingle but pinned Bush of Southeast in :49 seconds in his 138 pound match.

In other matches on the night at 106 pounds Garrett Pedersen won by fall in 3:23 over Boyd of Southeast, and lost by fall at 113 pounds to Kaufman of Lingle in 1:06. Clay Keller won by fall at 138 pounds over Collea of Lingle in :42, and won by fall in :39 over Cushman of Southeast at 132 pounds. Logan Stahla won by fall in 1:16 over Gilchriest of Lingle at 132 pounds. Cody Kirby at 220 and Eric Escajeda at 285 both won by forfeit against Lingle while Kirby lost by fall in 2:48 to Woorduff of Southeast and Escajeda lost by fall in 1:22 to Hunter of Southeast.

Coach Brashear said, "We wrestled probably the best matches we have all season. As a team, we attributed our wrestling to a solid week of practice. We won the dual with Lingle and we also won the head-to-head matches versus Southeast, however Southeast had more weight classes filled so they beat us in the overall dual score. We will look to continue to improve and look to peak at districts. We are back in action this weekend at the two day tournament in Lingle-Ft. Laramie."
