Kimball JV boys win 3 games

In Kimball High junior varsity basketball action this past week the Kimball boys set the tone for some exciting hardwood play.

On Tuesday of last week they battled a good Potter-Dix club through three quarters of play to win 46-43 as the young Coyotes came back strong at the end. Trent Rutledge led Kimball with 15 points going 5/5 at the foul line. Ethan Land hit a pair of treys and tallied 12 points, Tyler Magninie had 9, Jaden Withrow 7, and Jaikob Cole 3. Coby Hicks led Potter-Dix with 15, Edward Barnes had 9, Kelsey Rozelle 8, Sam Bogert 6, and Noah Nelson 3.

Another 3 point win at Bridgeport on Friday night in a full four quarters plus overtime! After the game ended in a tie at 50-50, Ethan Land scored all 9 Kimball points in overtime, and took game scoring honors with 18 including a pair of treys.

Tyler Magninie had 11, Jaden Withrow 10, Jordan Greenwood 7, Trent Rutledge 7 and all of the above hit a 3 pointer, and Tyrus Gawith finished with 6. Connor Wiggins led Bridgeport with 20 points, Eric Stevens had 11, and Logan Linch 10. This had to be the game of the week as the Kimball boys battled from behind to secure the exciting victory, 59 to 56.

No problem on the road to Gordon-Rushville Saturday with the Kimball boys winning 65-38, thanks in large part to a red hot shooting Jordan Greenwood who ended with 31 points. He was hot from the get-go scoring 15 first quarter points, sprained an ankle early in the second quarter and sat for a bit, but came back to score 10 more and had 25 at half time. He sat out the third period, then played a few minutes in the final quarter and added 6 more for his final tally. He ended up with 3 treys and was 4-5 at the foul line. Jaden Withrow had 11, Ethan Land 8 with a pair of treys, Trent Rutledge 5, Preston Booty 4, Tyler Magninie 4, and Tyrus Gawith 2. Greenwood’s shooting was a high light for certain as the Kimball JV ran their season record to 6-4.

Kimball coach Nick Kuxhausen commented, “Our kids have really been playing hard and showing improvement.”

The Kimball JV girls were not so fortunate this past week as they lost to Potter Dix 16-13 in a 2 quarter contest with Hannah Biesecker high for Kimball with 8, Jannel Fiehtner had 3 and Kaitlin Wurdeman 2. Potter-Dix had Cortney Lewis with 8 and Trinity Langley with 8.

The Bridgeport JV ran over Kimball 50-14 after jumping out to a 30-4 half time lead. Fiehtner had 6, Ireland Olson 4, Shauntae Daily 2, and Justine Heeg 2 for Kimball.

At Rushville Saturday afternoon it was back to a 2 quarter contest won by the host school 23-15. Freshman Autumn Richards led the winners with 17 points. Fiehtner had 7, Daily 5, and Biesecker 3 for Kimball. Kimball is now 3-7 on the year.
