Rhonda Dee Stander

Rhonda Dee (Sowerwine) Stander, 52, of Holdrege, Neb., went to sleep with her husband and best friend, Carl, by her side on Dec. 22, and did not wake up on Dec. 23. The God of her Understanding had come for her.

Rhonda was born on Dec. 25, 1961 in Scottsbluff to Richard and Mary (Johns) Sowerwine. Together they lived in Gering and welcomed sister Robin and brother Scott into their family. In 1973 Rhonda gained her dad Marvin Jensen, sisters Trena and Brenda, and brother Ben. Together the new family moved to Kimball where she spent the rest of her youth.

Rhonda met and married Roger Wynne in 1978. That union blessed Rhonda with her two sons, Kevin and Kyle. After the couple divorced, Rhonda met Carl and was united in marriage in 1993. They resided in Kimball until 2009, when they moved to Holdrege.

Rhonda's career calling was in nursing. She was extremely compassionate and her patients were grateful for her. Compassion also followed Rhonda in many ways; she loved caring for her family and friends and did so with her amazing cooking. She, along with Carl, catered very large parties and weddings for those they loved. The joy of Rhonda's adult life was spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren Kade Wynne, Barrett Wynne, Grace, Carlee, and Renee Murdoch, and Blake and Lanie Templeton.

Rhonda is survived by her husband, Carl, of Holdrege; her parents, Mary and Marvin Jensen of Kimball, and Richard Sowerwine of Gering; sons Kevin and wife Carrie of Kimball, and Kyle and wife Krystal of Rapid City, S.D .; step-daughters Jamie and husband Dwain Murdoch of Kimball, and Jessica and husband Brian Bogaard of Fort Collins, Colo .; sisters Robin Rutledge (Joely) of Kimball, Trena Primavera (Steven, David, Taylor) of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Brenda Mayes (Brenton, Alexis), of San Antonio, Texas; brothers Scott and wife Laurel (Emmy, Madi, Aly) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ben Jensen (Ellen) of Sidney.

Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 29, from 4:30-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Kimball. Cremation will be held.

The celebration of Rhonda's life was held on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. at the E-Free Church in Kimball, with Pastor Hod Boltjes officiating.

To honor Rhonda's love of nursing a memorial trust will be established to grant scholarships to nursing students. Memorial funds can be mailed to Carl Stander, 1215 Blaine Street, Holdrege, NE 68949. The services for Rhonda have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.
