Ronald E. Evelyn

Ronald E. Evelyn, 81, of Kimball, died at his home in Kimball on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 27, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with Pastor Carla Gunn officiating. Cremation followed and interment will be held at a later date. Friends may view the obituary and leave condolences for the family at http://www.cantrellfh.com. Friends were able to call at the funeral home Sunday, Oct. 26, from 1-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Kimball County Manor, Kimball Hospital Foundation or Trinity united Methodist Church. The services for Ron were entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Ronald Edward Evelyn was born in Gering on Dec. 24, 1932, the son of Laurel and Ruth (Dixon) Evelyn. While growing up, Ron lived in Wheatland, Wyo., and Gering. He graduated from the Gering High School in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged, he returned to Gering and attended Scottsbluff Junior College and received an associate's degree in business. He taught school in Gurley for two years, and while teaching he was making more money that the college professors that he learned under while at Scottsbluff Junior College.

Ron then moved to Auburn, Calif., and helped his mother in her creamery while attending Sacramento State College. He received his teaching degree and upon graduation he taught science and woodworking at Torrington High School. He also worked part time at Hartung's Department Store. The family moved to Kimball in 1965, where he was partner and manager of Hartung's Department store. He purchased the store in 1987 and changed to name to LorRon's Department Store. He continued to operate the store until the time of his death.

Ron served on several boards in the Kimball community over the years, including the hospital and library. He was a member of the Masons and was Associate Guardian of the Jobs Daughters, was a member of the Jaycees and Past President of the Cosmopolitan Club. Ron enjoyed woodworking and making stained glass; he was a rock hound and also played golf and cards with his friends. In the mid 1970s, Ron started snow skiing and enjoyed many trips with his family to the mountains to go skiing.

Survivors include his wife, Lorna Evelyn of Kimball; son, Doug (Dorothy) Evelyn of Casper, Wyo .; daughters, Stacy (Wade) Evertson of Cozad and Alyson Cenfetelli of Olathe, Kan .; step-sister Patricia Johnson of Ft. Collins, Colo .; grandchildren, Zach (Kristin), Lacee (Danny), Joy (Preston), Aaron, Tanner, Jeremy, Justin, Joshua, and Tara (Dan); and great grandchildren, Makehna, Madison, Trinity, Britani, Sadie, Deacon and London.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bradley Evelyn; daughter, Joy Evelyn; and granddaughters, Ashley and Jennifer.
