William Smythe, Sr.

Omaha, NE-Bill was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, the third son of Rev. Thomas Bennett Smythe and Marguerite Welden Smythe. He was a graduate of Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Divinity School of the Episcopal Church. He was ordained on his thirty-first birthday and served the church he loved in Hawaii, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado. From 1973 to 1989, Bill served St. Hilda's Episcopal Church in Kimball, Nebraska. While a student at Moravian, Bill met his future bride, Ann Marian Rosenau. They were married on August 9, 1947 in Hatboro, Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter, Carolyn Harden and husband Dan, of Lawrence, Kansas; sons: Bill Jr. and wife Jody of Omaha, Thomas and wife Jackie of Kelseyville, California, David and wife Barbara of Spring Valley, California; son-in-law, Dick Gabriel of Indianola, Iowa; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; daughters, Anne Gabriel and Sarah Farnan; and two grandchildren.

MEMORIAL SERVICE

Saturday, August 2nd at 1pm at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 925 South 84 Street in Omaha. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St Andrews Episcopal Church.
